Matchless Love.

photo via: eye-reennn.tumblr.com

Meditating on God's Faithful Love towards us will cause us to glorify Him through our actions. When we know our true sin nature as believers and how Christ's Love is ceaseless, patient, kind, determined and undeserved to us we should naturally act out that love towards others.

I've often heard that Christians can be the most unloving, hateful and mean people you will ever meet. Honestly, it's an oxymoron. If we have tasted God's love, His faithfulness towards us even as we sin against Him how could we not have this same disposition towards others?

When I go to the store my final stop is always cheese. I purchase a lot of cheese, I eat cheese every two hours with snacks, my children eat cheese with their lunches and their snacks, I make homemade pizza with cheese and spaghetti pie, I use it for Tuna melts and well you get the point, I use cheese a lot. Each week at the Market I have to select all my different cheeses. I have to make a choice to buy the imitation 'fake' cheese or the real stuff. Real cheese is so much better. I have to go back and forth between the two because sometimes I have to buy the cheapest but believe me I can taste the difference.

I don't want to be a fake imitation of love. I don't want to try and muster up love, to tell myself when I'm mad at someone, "Just love them and move on." I want to truly love them. I want to reflect on how Christ is currently forgiving me and not because I deserve it. I want to love them, not because I hope they will love me back and I can have a friendship. I want to love them not because I want to feel good about myself but because of the Love that is demonstrated to me through Christ.

Should not we of all people, those who are undeserving of love, who arrogantly walk around believing we have so much together when we really have only God to boost in, love others? Should not our love be  incomparable in our life. Our love should completely be matchless in our homes, families, friends, communities, culture and our world. We are being lavished with this amazing Faithful Love of God, how can we not lavish that on others. We must fight to see that love daily and joyfully live it to others.

When the cashier is rude or slow and you have somewhere to be or it's nap time and you have two kids with you, remember how the sin in your life and how God is patient with you. When your child keeps repeating the same behavior that flies all over you, discipline them but out of love, not out of anger or frustration. You have under your care little sinners, just like you.

Bask in the beautiful love of God. Love Towards undeserved and undeserving sinful people. Love others the way you have been and are being loved in Christ.

God's Love Towards Us.

We are told to Love God and to Love Others.
It's all over the Bible, it's preached on weekly.
We tell ourselves under our angry breaths to just love them.
Are we just self-help Christians, just putting
a twist on the self-help, be the better you?
Or, are we pursuing a love that will naturally flow from our lives,
one that will be patient with others and truly display love?

How do we obtain love that is patient with those who sin against us? Love that is poured to those who don't deserve love?

By never leaving or going beyond the Cross. It is at the Cross where we must remain, every day of our lives.

We must take a deep look at ourself. I see the tendency in myself and others in my life to think we're doing pretty good. I mean we go to church and we're involved, we don't drink or smoke or curse, some of us are stay at home mommies and by all means some of us homeschool our little ones. Can I share something I hope is not a secret {even though I'm sadden that so many believers aren't aware of this}we are still major sinners. Yes, we all acknowledge we were sinners before salvation, but we are just as much now.

 Personalize that for yourself. All of the above listed 'good things' that we do daily or the 'bad things' we refrain from do not merit anything with God and they do not cause Him to favor us. Take a breath. Maybe read it again, because it is true. Our right standing before God is not based on what we do or what we don't do, it's conclusively on Jesus' righteous account.

I hope that fills you with delight. If you've thought for years that your really not that sinful or you've not really personalized or diagnosed your sin then I hope you will begin now. If your thoughts are, "I just let my husband have it every once in a while and we all know he needs straightening out sometimes," or "Yes, I may gossip a little but, we're all ladies and we can share a little about someone, especially if we saw them at the mall and they didn't say anything to us!"

Do you see the subtle tendencies we face everyday? We have learned to down play our sin. As a deadly result we esteem ourself. We build up our 'self esteem' and we have deceived ourselves and are not living in the reality of our true state. We are sinful. Yet, God has chosen, determined and fixed His love on us. Even when we sin. Even when we finally begin to see how sinful we really are {even thought we've been saved since we were 5 and was always a 'good girl' growing up} and the weight of the sin comes as a weight on our soul. It's at this point where we can finally begin to understand God's love. God loves you because of Christ, because He has placed His perfection of a life in your place.

After drinking from these wonderful truths, after we affirm in our hearts the reality of our sinfulness, the patience in God towards us, His ceaseless forgiveness His love which is completely lavished on undeserved people, how can we not love others? When you are tempted to put people at arms length because they have hurt you, don't. Rejoice in the fact that daily you do things that should make God to put you at arms length, yet He doesn't. He is patient with you, sometimes for years, be patient with others. Have ceaseless love. Love that person who is unloveable, are you not the same in God's sight apart from Christ?

Faithful Love.

"My lips will glorify you
because Your faithful love is
better than life."
Psalm 63:3

When we reflect on this verse I think we must start with the meditation of God's faithful love. His faithful love is strengthened when you reflect on your sin and when you are going through trials.

Undeserved: When we think on how sinful we are we began to see how undeserved God's love is. Think of your current state, not before salvation but now. We boast and brag, we act as if we have everything together but reality God has everything together. We are unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful several times each day, which equals out to be a very sinful person. Think about your sin, does that merit love? Absolutely not, it deserves judgement and wrath but, yet His faithful love remains.

Death Defined: God's faithful love can be in part defined by death. Actions are so strong in our culture and I believe that most people tend to overlook this element of God's faithful love. His love reached an apex when the God man was announced dead at the Cross, on our behalf. Reflect on the lengths that was taken for the Bride of Christ, is this not an amazing testimony of the love of our Savior?

Ceaseless, Never ending: Although we affirm this we have a hard time with this on the ground of our sinful hearts. God's love is ceaseless, you can never go to far as a believer. His love will not come to a halt when you have committed a sin, when you have been too arrogant to even notice it His God who is causing everything in your life to work for your good, not yourself. That He is behind every gift, even faith to trust in Him.

Relentless: The love that God has towards the Redeemed is relentless. It's pursuing us, chasing us, and will do so because He wants us to know we are loved. Why? because in us knowing His love we will understand true realities of His character and will naturally love Him and make His name known.

Beckoning, Awakening: The Love of Christ awakens us and beckons with a strong proclamation of His love.

Incomparable, Matchless: Think of all those whose love has failed you. Those who have cut ties or their friendship with you. Maybe you did something to cause that, whatever the reason we have all experienced this. God's faithful love is not mirrored in this. It is Matchless to any human love, we cannot even compare it to the person who showers the most love on us. Our love isn't able to even begin to measure up to God's love towards us. Our love can be short lived, we think other need to deserve our love and our love can be at times ending while Christ's is not.

I've only scratched the surface on God's faithful love but when we consume our minds with these Truths how can our lips keep from glorifying God? This faithful love is truly undeserved when we see the sin in our life, it has reached an apex by death, it is ceaseless, is is always pursing us and awakening us to the Glories of Christ and it cannot compare or reflect any human relationship on earth. May we flood our minds with God's faithful love and out of our lives will flow actions which will show the world that we are sinful but we have a Love upholding us.

Storms In My Life.

Source: google.com via Marcie on Pinterest

Things have been going on in my personal life for the last few months that I've not had the heart or understanding to share with my readers. Those who know me in *real life* know the difficulties my family has been experiencing. I'm wanting to be as general as possible, issues surrounding these trials are so deep and I'm not ready to open up for the world web critiques at this time.

Generally I will say my husband, who is an amazing man of God, has been through the wringer. He has stood for Truth and Love and Convictions and has lost our only source of income because of it. That is not the most difficult part, its the aftermath: the gossips, lies, rudeness, letters and the hurt that will take so much time and grace to heal.

I've experienced so many emotions I never expected but at the same time I have come to understand God in different ways that I never could have if I would have just been sailing along as prior to these trials. Tears will dry up for days and then they will flood again. At the root it's tears for so many things. Many treasures and idols hidden in my heart have and are being exposed to me.

The past 5 1/2 years have been focused, preparing and then entering into the ministry. It was our hopes, our dreams, our calling and our delight to serve in the church the way we were. It is all gone, for the time being. We are now having to reorient our entire life practically with our vocations during this season. I'm learning once again, that my identity is found in something that is not fleeting, in Christ. My identity isn't being a Pastor's Wife, a mom, stay at home mom, homemaker or anything else but who I am because of Christ.

With a heavy heart I rejoice and trust the Lord during this season of my life when so many things are unclear, uncertain and unknowing. Even though the unknown is difficult it is in this that I am learning the Goodness of God even more.

Preparing our Children for Easter

Preparing ourselves is vitally important, but so is preparing our little ones for Easter. Children learn through some of the ways adults do. Just as I prepare myself for the death of my beloved Savior through books I also try to prepare my little ones for the Death and Resurrection through age appropriate books. Here are a few books that I recommend. Noel Piper has several books she recommends for our little children. What books do you suggest to prepare our children for Easter?

Preparing for Easter through Music

This is the second part in the Preparing for Easter Series. Yesterday I shared the importance of preparing ourselves for Easter through reading. Today I'm sharing with you some music that can help prepare our hearts for Easter.
Although music shouldn't be the main way we focus on God, it can aid in focusing our minds on the things of God. When we play, listen and meditate on Cross-centered music around Easter we will be fostering our hearts towards Christ and the focus of Easter.
Here is a sample of my playlist.
Hosanna {Andrew Peterson}
Behold the Lamb of God {Andrew Peterson}
How Deep the Father's Love for us
In Christ Alone {Keith & Kristyn Getty}
Power of the Cross {Keith & Kristyn Getty}
Beneath the Cross {Keith & Kristyn Getty}
I will Sing of my Redeemer {Fernando Ortega}
Pierced for our Transgressions
Before the Throne
Alas, and did my Savior Bleed {Sovereign Grace}
I will Glory in my Redeemer {Sovereign Grace}
Before the Cross {Sovereign Grace}
Were you there {Selah}
Lead me to the Cross {Hillsong United}
What music do you listen to leading up to Easter?

Books to Prepare for Easter

Preparing for Easter seems to be a lot harder than preparing ourselves for Christmas. We have to be very intentional in our homes, with our children and ourselves in order to grasp how joyous and glorious Easter Sunday truly is. In order to celebrate the resurrection of Christ from the dead we have to first understand and focus on the necessity of the Death of Jesus.

During the next few days I encourage you to focus your heart and your children's hearts towards the cross. I've listed three books {out of many} that are an excellent read to prepare ourselves and to begin understanding the weight of the cross. What books do you read as Easter approaches?

Lemon Cheesecake {low sugar}

This is my new favorite Spring and Summer dessert! My friend shared this with me because it's a low sugar treat and really easy to make.
What you Need:
8 oz. cream cheese {softened}
1 tub of cool whip {sugar free}
1 grapham cracker crust {this has the sugar in it}
1 package of on-the-go Crystal Light package
1
Mix the cream cheese and crystal light mix until completely blended {you won't see yellow anymore}.
2
Add all the cool whip except 1/3 of the tub.
At this point you can create a beautiful pie if you want by adding food coloring. I made this one for Easter for my kids.
3
Simply spread the entire mixture into the pie crust.
4
Color the remaining cool whip and spread on top of the pie
What are your favorite spring/summer desserts?

*This is a repost from a year ago... I'm making this for Easter and thought it might give you something new to try!*
