Behold the Manger.

Typically we are excited about celebrating Christ's birth. As Christians we try to focus and point our children and ourselves to the babe in the manger, after all that is what Christmas is about. This season I've spent time examining our traditions as a family and how we focus on the Savior coming into the world. It seems that we read the Christmas story over and over, watch the Nativity, complete our daily advent calendars but never behold the manger. Why, is this babe so important?
Prior to the birth of this babe on earth, He existed. John tells us that in the beginning the 'Word' was with God and that the Word was God. John also tells that the Word {Jesus} created the universe {John 1: 1-3}.
He was completely and fully God. He was being worshipped by angels and given glory in heaven. This sheds more awe and wonder to this babe being born in a humble barn. He knew what would happen, He was ignorant to how his life on earth would be. Yet, He put on humanity and was born in a manger.
Looking at the manger we see a precious newborn that would live a completely sinless life. Wow. If this babe didn't grow up to be perfect, utterly sinless, then no sacrifice could be made. No reconciliation for mankind and God. May we behold and be captivated this season by the beautiful story of our Savior's birth.
