Military Life

Hello Dear Readers!
I am thrilled to be writing on Don't Waste Your Homemaking. My name is Sarah Christensen and I am a proud military wife. I have a blog called The Adventures Of The Christensens, where I share my life as a stay-at-home Marine wife who loves to bake, cook, sew and craft.
You can visit my blog at http://www.richandsarahchristensen.blogspot.com/
Marcie has so graciously given me a monthly spot on Don't Waste Your Homemaking. Each month, I will be writing about my life as a military wife and mother. I will tell about my experiences, adventures, joys and heartaches of life in the military from a Christian perspective. Whether you are a military wife or not, I hope to shed some light on the lifestyle, values and love that these extraordinary women called military wives have for their country! Please join me on our adventure.

All About Me

Before I decided to be a stay-at-home mama, I was an elementary school teacher. During the first week of school, I would always make my students create an "All About Me" poster. The poster was a way for my students to share about themselves with their classmates and me.

I thought I would start my first military wife/life story today by sharing "All About Me".

My husband Rich and I are a young, growing Christian military family. Rich is a 1st Lieutenant in The United States Marine Corps. I am a former Elementary school teacher. I am a stay-at-home Marine wife who loves to sew, bake, cook, craft! I enjoy being a Domestic Engineer. Rich and I have a little baby boy named Robert, who just turned five months old yesterday. You will here a lot about Robbie, he is my joy! We also have a chubby little cat named Maverick. Together, we four make up our little family. We live on base at Camp Pendelton Marine Corps Base in beautiful Southern California . Rich and I are both native Californians. We both actually grew-up in Pasadena California, which is only about an hour away from our current base.

My Marine And Me
Our sweet little boy

So friends, today I would like to offer you military and non-military wives a word of encouragement and a little advice. It is by far so very important to stay close to the Lord. Our lifestyle and journey is not an easy one. In a military wife's world, her life, surroundings, friends and home are constantly changing. Quite often she must play both mother and father rolls to her children. The military wife is strong, loyal, compassionate. The military wife has good character and high moral standards . Most importantly, she must hold strong to her faith in the Lord.
Does she sound like someone you might now??

In my opinion the military wife (like all of us) must strive to be like The Proverbs 31 Woman.

Below are the top 10 characteristics of a virtuous woman;
10 Virtues Of The Proverbs 31 Woman

1. Faith - A Virtuous Woman serves God with all of her heart, mind, and soul. She seeks His will for her life and follows His ways. (Proverbs 31: 26, Proverbs 31: 29 – 31, Matthew 22: 37, John 14: 15, Psalm 119: 15
2. Marriage – A Virtuous Woman respects her husband. She does him good all the days of her life. She is trustworthy and a helpmeet. (Proverbs 31: 11- 12, Proverbs 31: 23, Proverbs 31: 28, 1 Peter 3, Ephesians 5, Genesis2: 18)
3. Mothering - A Virtuous Woman teaches her children the ways of her Father in heaven. She nurtures her children with the love of Christ, disciplines them with care and wisdom, and trains them in the way they should go. (Proverbs 31: 28, Proverbs 31: 26, Proverbs 22: 6, Deuteronomy 6, Luke 18: 16)
4. Health – A Virtuous Woman cares for her body. She prepares healthy food for her family. (Proverbs 31: 14 – 15, Proverbs 31: 17, 1 Corinthians 6: 19, Genesis 1: 29, Daniel 1, Leviticus 11)
5. Service - A Virtuous Woman serves her husband, her family, her friends, and her neighbors with a gentle and loving spirit. She is charitable. (Proverbs 31: 12, Proverbs 31: 15, Proverbs 31: 20, 1 Corinthians 13: 13)
6. Finances - A Virtuous Woman seeks her husband’s approval before making purchases and spends money wisely. She is careful to purchase quality items which her family needs. (Proverbs 31: 14, Proverbs 31: 16, Proverbs 31: 18, 1 Timothy 6: 10, Ephesians 5: 23, Deuteronomy 14: 22, Numbers 18: 26)
7. Industry – A Virtuous Woman works willingly with her hands. She sings praises to God and does not grumble while completing her tasks. (Proverbs 31: 13, Proverbs 31: 16, Proverbs 31: 24, Proverbs 31: 31, Philippians 2: 14)
8. Homemaking – A Virtuous Woman is a homemaker. She creates an inviting atmosphere of warmth and love for her family and guests. She uses hospitality to minister to those around her. (Proverbs 31: 15, Proverbs 31: 20 – 22, Proverbs 31: 27, Titus 2: 5, 1 Peter 4: 9, Hebrews 13: 2)
9. Time - A Virtuous Woman uses her time wisely. She works diligently to complete her daily tasks. She does not spend time dwelling on those things that do not please the Lord. (Proverbs 31: 13, Proverbs 31: 19, Proverbs 31: 27, Ecclesiastes 3, Proverbs 16: 9, Philippians 4:8 )
10. Beauty – A Virtuous Woman is a woman of worth and beauty. She has the inner beauty that only comes from Christ. She uses her creativity and sense of style to create beauty in her life and the lives of her loved ones. (Proverbs 31: 10Proverbs 31: 21 – 22, Proverbs 31: 24 -25, Isaiah 61: 10, 1 Timothy 2: 9, 1 Peter 3: 1 – 6)
It is so important that as women, we strive to meet these standards everyday. At times we will fall short, and that's okay. we are not reaching for an impossible goal.

How About You...
I would love your opinion and questions!!! What military questions do you have? What would you like to learn more about?
My husband and I are honored to be serving our country and ask for prayer in our upcoming adventures. We have been blessed tremendously, and thank God everyday for all he has given us! Join next month on Don't Wast Your Homemaking as we discuss; "How To Make The Military House A Home" Have a blessed day,
Sarah

Righteousness

"Our best duties are so many splendid sins.
Before you can speak peace to your heart you must not only be sick of your original and actual sin, but you must be made sick of your righteousness, of all your duties and performances.
There must be a deep conviction before you can be brought out of your self-righteousness; it is the last idol taken out of our heart. The pride of our heart will not let us submit to the righteousness of Christ."
-George Whitfield

It's often encouraged through music, preaching, books and other teachers to focus on your sin, specifically the deeds done in the negative sense, not reading your bible, not going to church, not being disciplined, watching the wrong things and the list goes on.

How often do you hear of the sins of your righteousness of your duties and performances? The sin in where you pride your self in your own good deeds and upright moral life.

Do you consider your self a righteous person? What is the premise of your reasoning? Is is because you don't curse, drink and watch R rated movies? Or is your righteousness due completely on Christ's account? Just a few thoughts that I've been wrestling with myself lately.

Fall Checkers

The Hubs and I took the kiddos to a pumpkin last week and I thought their version of checkers were adorable! They painted half of the pumpkins black for the 'black checkers.' The seats were big stumps... how cute is that?

My cousin so good at decorating and planning events, here is her latest creations at a sweet baby shower! The theme is 'She's about to Pop'!

I loved this idea of cloth cupcakes, cloth pops and a cloth cake vs. the traditional diaper cakes!

Decorating tables with burp clothes and precious little girl books was practical and so cute!
