Tempted and Tried

Temptations are a major issue in the Christian life. If you think you're excluded and aren't really struggling, then you may be struggling in more ways than you think. I'm finishing up a book on the reality of our struggles and the triumph of Christ over His temptations.
My perspective of personal temptations have been exposed and the reality of how Satan knows and plays on our struggles has a major bearing on my thoughts lately. I highly recommend putting this book on your next reading list. I hope to share more thoughts on this book in the future but for now, here is the book trailer. The book is Tempted and Tried {Temptation and the Triumph of Christ} by Dr. Russell Moore.

How much do you give yourself to actually thinking through your temptations and the reality of how Satan plays on your own desires to tempt you?

Christ and His Church

Christ and His Church

Christ is

Head {of the church}

Cornerstone {of the church}

Savior {of the church}
Sanctifier {of the church}

As my husband has transitioned into a lead pastor role over the past few weeks I've been reflecting more on the Church. The church is not the popularized building that Christians go to meet at, but, the believers themselves. The church is collectively worldwide but also exist in small numbers spread out and congregate in specific areas {local body of believers}.

As the Church we have such a great calling because we are the redeemed, we were purchased with Christ' blood, therefore we are His church. I found a simple table/chart in the ESV Study Bible this past week which explains the relationship between Christ and His Church. This is only an excerpt from it but, it's so important to remember our relationship with Christ.

Spring Hostess Gift

Today I have the lovely Anna from Ask Anna with an amazing gift that you create for a Spring Hostess Gift!

I'm so excited to show you all this hostess gift that I made for a friend last week. We very rarely get invited over to other people's houses for dinner (I'm usually the hostess) so when we do I go all out!

About a month ago I saw this super cute idea over at The Tattered Tag and LOVED it! I decided that Christina's idea would be the perfect inspiration for this hostess gift. :)

So here's my take on it:

Supplies:

1. White bucket from the Target dollar bins

2. Empty applesauce jar

3. Extra pot from last summer

4. Ribbon from my craft box

5. Seeds I purchased from Target

First I washed the pot so that it looked like new. Then I stuffed it with paper towels and tissue paper so that everything would sit higher.

Next I poked holes in the lid of the applesauce jar so that the worms could breathe. We have amazing soil in our backyard so I was excited to give her some. :)

I filled the jar with soil and then placed some extra fabric I found over it so that it looked cute.

Then I went out and picked a bunch of herbs from my garden and filled up the white bucket. I LOVE fresh herbs so I'm always excited to share them with others! Here I have rosemary, thyme and sage.

I also have some new sprigs of mint coming in so I plucked one out so that she could replant it and have her own mint plant for summer mojitos!

Then I cut out a little sign and personalized it.

I love it. I kind of wanted to give it to myself but I knew the recipient would love it too. :) I had so much fun making it. I bought double of everything so I can't wait to make another one!!!

Homemade Fondant

If you like to decorate cakes or cookies using fondant you need to make it homemade, It's a little time consuming but it's a lot cheaper than purchasing it. I tried many recipes when I first began but this is my favorite!

What you Need:
6 oz. bag mini marshmallows
3 TBSP water
2 lbs. powdered sugar
Wooden Spoon
Mixer {stand up is easier}
Icing Colors {I recommend Wilton}
Crisco

Step 1
Place your marshmallows into a greased microwaveable dish and add water. Microwave in 30 second intervals until melted. Each 30 seconds stir the marshmallow goo.

Step 2
Once the marshmallows are completely melted place them in your mixer along with your powdered sugar {keep 1/4 of your sugar for later}. Grease your mixer attachments.
Beat until soft dough forms.

Step 3
Once a soft dough forms place the dough on the reserved sugar and knead. Crisco your hands so the dough doesn't stick to your hands. Knead approximately 5 minutes. Sometimes it's easier to break it into smaller pieces instead of just one huge piece.

Once your kneading is done you can color your fondant!
Simply place icing color onto your dough and knead until the color is the way you want.

Keep kneading {this part takes a while} so you can get an even color.

Radical

What truth that we as Americans are often so blind to? Christ has called us to live radical lives. Lives that are willing to give everything up for Christ. Followers who truly treasure Christ more than anything else. We are plan A and there is no plan B. I have read parts of Radical {my book was ruined in a boating accident} and was deeply challenged. What are your thoughts on the book or this small clip? Pin It Now!

Portrait of a Godly Woman

Kendal from The Father Knows Best is jewel when it comes to Christian Women Bloggers. I personally follow her and read her posts often and always come away challenged! Today, she will be sharing with you a Portrait of a Godly Woman. Please hop over to her site and leave her feedback from her post and if you like her writing please show your love by following her {you won't be disappointed}!

The Proverbs 31 woman, wife and mother. Who is she and why is she the most referred to woman in the Bible? I believe God has given us a picture of the woman He created us to be. This woman loved the Lord, she treasured and adored her husband, she diligently trained and taught her children; she was a woman that saw the importance of homemaking. She was undeniably a very selfless woman!

I fall so short but God's grace covers all of my failures! I so aspire to be this woman but realize I have such a long way to go! But thankfully, He is not done with me! What God completes, is completely done!

10 Virtues of the Proverbs 31 Woman (avirtuouswoman.org)

1. Faith - A Virtuous Woman serves God with all of her heart, mind, and soul. She seeks His will for her life and follows His ways. (Proverbs 31: 26, Proverbs 31: 29 – 31, Matthew 22: 37, John 14: 15, Psalm 119: 15

2. Marriage – A Virtuous Woman respects her husband. She does him good all the days of her life. She is trustworthy and a helpmeet. (Proverbs 31: 11- 12, Proverbs 31: 23, Proverbs 31: 28, 1 Peter 3, Ephesians 5, Genesis2: 18)

3. Mothering - A Virtuous Woman teaches her children the ways of her Father in heaven. She nurtures her children with the love of Christ, disciplines them with care and wisdom, and trains them in the way they should go. (Proverbs 31: 28, Proverbs 31: 26, Proverbs 22: 6, Deuteronomy 6, Luke 18: 16)

4. Health – A Virtuous Woman cares for her body. She prepares healthy food for her family. (Proverbs 31: 14 – 15, Proverbs 31: 17, 1 Corinthians 6: 19, Genesis 1: 29, Daniel 1, Leviticus 11)

5. Service - A Virtuous Woman serves her husband, her family, her friends, and her neighbors with a gentle and loving spirit. She is charitable. (Proverbs 31: 12, Proverbs 31: 15, Proverbs 31: 20, 1 Corinthians 13: 13)

6. Finances - A Virtuous Woman seeks her husband’s approval before making purchases and spends money wisely. She is careful to purchase quality items which her family needs. (Proverbs 31: 14, Proverbs 31: 16, Proverbs 31: 18, 1 Timothy 6: 10, Ephesians 5: 23, Deuteronomy 14: 22, Numbers 18: 26)

7. Industry – A Virtuous Woman works willingly with her hands. She sings praises to God and does not grumble while completing her tasks. (Proverbs 31: 13, Proverbs 31: 16, Proverbs 31: 24, Proverbs 31: 31, Philippians 2: 14)

8. Homemaking – A Virtuous Woman is a homemaker. She creates an inviting atmosphere of warmth and love for her family and guests. She uses hospitality to minister to those around her. (Proverbs 31: 15, Proverbs 31: 20 – 22, Proverbs 31: 27, Titus 2: 5, 1 Peter 4: 9, Hebrews 13: 2)

9. Time - A Virtuous Woman uses her time wisely. She works diligently to complete her daily tasks. She does not spend time dwelling on those things that do not please the Lord. (Proverbs 31: 13, Proverbs 31: 19, Proverbs 31: 27, Ecclesiastes 3, Proverbs 16: 9, Philippians 4:8 )

10. Beauty – A Virtuous Woman is a woman of worth and beauty. She has the inner beauty that only comes from Christ. She uses her creativity and sense of style to create beauty in her life and the lives of her loved ones. (Proverbs 31: 10Proverbs 31: 21 – 22, Proverbs 31: 24 -25, Isaiah 61: 10, 1 Timothy 2: 9, 1 Peter 3: 1 – 6)

Let's be intentional in our efforts to fulfill the Proverbs 31 calling. Ask the Lord to reveal hidden sin that could hinder you from becoming the virtuous woman He has called us to be. It's a high calling for sure, but with the Grace of our Lord we can joyfully walk in the divine role He has placed on our life.

Every Life Has a Story

How often are we in public places or even in church and consumed with either our thoughts or totally focused on our kids that we forget the people around us? I'm far too guilty of this. It's so easy to simply and not try to hear someones story. It's difficult to speak truth and love and get into peoples life. How are we to show people that they will not find ultimate happiness and true satisfaction until they treasure Christ above all else when we assume they are okay? May we seek to get to know those whom God places us around.

Lemon Cheesecake {low sugar}

This is my new favorite Spring and Summer dessert! My friend shared this with me because it's a low sugar treat and really easy to make.

What you Need:
8 oz. cream cheese {softened}
1 tub of cool whip {sugar free}
1 grapham cracker crust {this has the sugar in it}
1 package of on-the-go Crystal Light package

1
Mix the cream cheese and crystal light mix until completely blended {you won't see yellow anymore}.

2
Add all the cool whip except 1/3 of the tub.
At this point you can create a beautiful pie if you want by adding food coloring. I made this one for Easter for my kids.

3
Simply spread the entire mixture into the pie crust.

4
Color the remaining cool whip and spread on top of the pie

What are your favorite spring/summer desserts?

Moving Day

The official 'move day' has arrived at my house. For the next few weeks I might seem MIA because I most definitely will be in the 'blog world.' There will be regular posts for a next two weeks from me and from some amazing bloggers who will share some amazing tutorials or some challenging devotional thoughts. After two weeks I hope to have internet access but, there will be no guarantee.

Please pray for my family during this transition, as we are purchasing our first home, transitioning to new schools, and as my husband begins his role as becomes a Lead Pastor. We are truly excited for all the things the Lord has called us to and the new relationships that will be formed as we transition into this new ministry.

{Although new posts will be up on the website it will not be posted on facebook or twitter, so check back on the site for new posts.}

Biblical Perspectives on the Death of Osama bin Laden

As everyone around the globe knows Bin Laden has been killed by a U.S. special Navy Seal team. Although there are a lot of uncertainties surrounding this death {will this spark terroristic attacks quickly out of retaliation etc?} I am proud of our C.I.A., military and their perseverance for the several years spent in bringing down the head of one of the most deadly terrorist groups today. I've found several articles helpful in thinking through this situation with a biblical lens.
