What is the chief end of man? Or what is the purpose or goal of man? Often times Christians think little about their ultimate purpose in life or they respond quickly by saying to glorify God. What does it really mean to glorify Christ? John Piper says that to glorify doesn't mean to make glorious but, to reflect or display as glorious. We are reflecting something that is already beautiful. As Christians our ultimate purpose is to reflect God's glory in everything we do.
1 Corinthians 10:31 says, "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (ESV) The ESV Study Bible comments, "Every aspect of every Christian's life has the potential to honor God."
If God calls us to this purpose and if we love Jesus as we ought we should make it our ambition and whole life pursuit to glorify Christ. This isn't just something that you place in the back of your mind which pops up every now and then when you are ministering or at church. This is something that your thoughts should constantly be on. We should be meditating continually on God and seeking to honor Him in literally everything we do. I know this sparks more questions and in order to keep this post from being extremely long I plan to post more thoughts on this at a later time.
Being that we are called to this purpose and that this pursuit will bring us true happiness and joy we must pursue to glorify God in all things. It's easy to try to glorify Christ in certain areas but, more difficult in other areas such as homemaking! Of course you know by now that this is my reason behind starting www.dontwasteyourhomemaking.com , because so many women view homemaking (cooking, cleaning, organizing, nutrition...)as mundane dutiful tasks which must be completed instead of seeking to display the glory of Christ in these everyday routines around the home. May you continue to read as we try to learn how to do this.
